AMRAP It Up!

Standard

WOD:
15 Minute AMRAP
10 Wallballs (16#)
10 Toes to Bar (mod to Knees to Chest)
10 Box Jumps (Short Box)
6.20 (6 complete rounds and all but box jumps into 7th (20 reps))

Felt great doing today’s workout. I was able to do all wallballs with the 16# ball without too much pain. Don’t get me wrong, it was tough but doable. My hands ripped again doing the Knees to Chest but not nearly as bad as yesterday or the time before. I tried my best to just hook my hands so I didn’t tear them, but it’s harder than it appears! The box jumps were slow, but not too bad. Glad I’m able to do them now without having to modify down to step ups.

I got my order of Eatology in today. Some of the boxes were broken. One had to be thrown away because it was busted too much. They were packed very well (Styrofoam and bubble wrap) and the outer box didn’t look too damaged (was dropped on one corner) so I’m not sure what happened there. I’m not upset, just surprised. Had to throw away the meatloaf…too bad! hahaha

Tonight I ate the Chicken Creole. It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t very spicy, which in my head a Creole should be. It was a little bland, but not overly so. Of course, it was much better than Lean Cuisine!  Plus, it had okra, cabbage, and other veggies I’m not a fan of and I was able to eat them without getting grossed out!

 

I’ve found a race challenge I would LOVE to do. Who wouldn’t want to race in Italy? The pricing is a bit much so I’ll have to save up. Anyone want to join me?!

Staying in the Game

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood! However, we NEED RAIN. Texas has outrageous amounts of fires breaking out thanks to the drought. I’ve never seen it this bad before. Supposedly it was similar to this some time in the 50’s, but I wasn’t around at that time!

Today’s workout went well. Not that I did very good but I feel like I’m doing better than I had. I did the box jumps, which I had to modify to step ups for the past couple of months, and I was able to do the run each round instead of skipping it! Unfortunately, I lost a lot of my strength and endurance because of my modifications I had to do but I think that’ll increase pretty quickly now that I can really push it again.

My arms and back are sore today from yesterday’s workout! This contributed to my having to drop weight down on my Push Presses today. That and the fact that I’ve been using lighter weight to help with the breathing and have probably lost some of what I gained before.

200 Meter Run

The run was changed from going down the alley to going to the stop sign and back. I don’t think that’s 200 meters, but there was a van parked in the alley doing some work for one of the stores and was an accident waiting to happen. It took me 17:29 to complete it. Again, not great but I’m not upset with it. I felt I did what I could. My hand was bothering me some because the tears were still quite fresh. Thankfully Shane was able to tape them up some so they didn’t get too scraped up again today. They’re weeping a bit right now, but otherwise they’re not too bad.

I’m glad I have a day to recover until my next round of CrossFit. This Thursday I’m going to try to go without stopping at all during the workout. Just push push push.

Today I signed up for the 10 for Texas race on Oct. 8th. I didn’t realize it was coming up so soon! Guess I need to start getting more serious about my training. I’ve missed the past 3 weeks (2 because of traveling and 1 because of laziness). This Sunday the girls and I will be running/walking 6 miles. They’ll keep me up to speed! I can’t wait to see how my running/walking goes now that I can breathe better. Based on the run in today’s workout it will NOT be fast! I need to work on increasing my speed. I also have my marathon I’m supposed to be training for. The thought occurred to me that I should probably drop down to the 1/2 but now I’m second guessing that. We’ll see how the training progresses and the 10 miler goes! After all, I still have 3 months to get ready for it.

Oh…and my husband showed me this fun little endeavor. If it’s done well, I think it’ll be a blast! However, it has the opportunity to be really cheesy too. Check it out and tell me what you think!

Fight Gone Bad Redeux

Yep yep!! It was Fight Gone Bad again. My score last time was 182. This time around my score was 164…so….that went down. However, I went up on weight on all of lifts.

Wallball 16#, up from 8#
Sumo Deadlift High Pull 45# up from 35#
Push Press 45# up from 35#
Box Jumps 20″ step ups up from 14″ step ups

Plus, add in the fact that it was boiling and I’m at my lowest breathing point (150 on the peak flow meter, lowest before last dilation too). So, I’m going to take it as an even move. We also have a rowing machine now!! Stoked about that.  Thankfully, I wasn’t as tired/drained today as I was Thursday.

Here’s the breakdown:

This weekend I bought some Vibram Five Fingers. It takes me about 30 minutes to put them on because my little toes never want to cooperate! I bought these because they supposedly help keep blisters from forming, if they fit correctly. I’ll give them a trial run on Saturday to see how they feel. Once I get them on they are actually pretty comfortable, yet odd looking! Yep…I went with pink…why not?

My eating has been very good this past week. Today was day 8 of no artificial sweeteners, sugar, grains or “white” foods. Mike is doing it with me this time, which seems to help me stick to it more. I don’t think he’s that big of a fan but he’s still hanging in there!

I’ve been happy with my food options available at the local HEB lately. So glad they’re starting to carry more nitrate free/free range/grass fed/organic foods!

Mmmmm….green beans, sausage and kraut!

Sunday was also weigh in day. When I weighed in after my vacation I was up to 206#. Eeek!! I weighed in yesterday at 201.4! Down 4.6#…in one week. Granted a lot of that was probably water weight from cutting out some of the foods, but I’m quite excited about it! We’ll see what this Sunday brings. I bought myself the Wow: Worship CD as a reward. This week if I reach my weight loss goal (1.5#) I get to buy a book!

Cut off time was 25 minutes, so at least I finished. I couldn’t breath today, add that with front squats where the bar is pushing on my neck and you get a crappy workout. I started with 65# but dropped down to 55# in round 2. I did 5 box jumps and ended up modifying those to step ups. In the first round I was already having problems breathing. There was a lot of stopping to catch my breath. My front squats in rounds 3-5 became shallow squats too. No, I didn’t get the depth. The lower I went the more the bar pushed on my throat because I couldn’t keep my elbows up to where the bar would rest on my shoulders. Shane made the comment “I’ll take that any day, all day long.” I think he was happy I was moving instead of standing there sucking air. Everyone cheered me on, which was nice. I’m so thankful our gym is supportive. Not once have I heard a snide comment made toward anyone there. We all do the best we can and try to support the others the best we can. The best I can tell, this seems to be par for the course for all CrossFit gyms which is outstanding!

August 23rd can’t come soon enough. I’ll be able to schedule my dilation so I can breathe again!

Since my breathing has been tough lately I originally was going to go to the next sized (taller) box and just do step ups, as I’ve done before. However, I wanted to test myself and see if I could do the box jumps. I sometimes wonder if I don’t use my trouble breathing as an excuse with myself. Don’t get me wrong, I can’t breathe well and my workouts definitely take me longer because I’m constantly trying to catch my breath, but I want to make sure that I’m pushing myself and not choosing easier options just so I have a faster time. I’ve come to accept the fact that I’m going to be last at every workout. I would rather be last at finishing a tough workout than first to plant my butt on a couch to watch tv. I refuse to let my illness (if you want to call it that) get the better of me. The hardest part is the mental aspect. If I can push through that, then I’m gonna be ok. Wheezy, but ok!

Oooff…What a week

My breathing has been pretty rough these past couple of weeks so I decided to modify the box jumps to step ups using a taller box. Even then, this workout was hard. I felt pretty strong with the Clean & Jerks though. I think I could have done a little more weight with that few number of reps.

Freakin’ fracken burpees. This was one workout I would have liked to just stop 1/2 way through and go home. It tore me up. Afterward we practiced cleans because our form isn’t that good. I don’t think I have it down. It will take a bit. The hardest part is squating under the bar instead of trying to fling the bar up. Tomorrow is another Marathon training day followed by a free foam roller workshop at Clara and Kelly’s CrossFit gym…looking forward to the rolling!

Wodya, Wodya, Wodya Want?

First time I used the green band (lighter than black) and did Kipping Pull Ups in a WOD! I am so stoked to finally get on the green band. I’m not going back! I find it easier to do the pull ups without wrapping my thumb around. My push ups were strong. I need to work on doing full push ups instead of knee push ups. I used the small box on the box jumps and did ok. I should probably try the next box up.

This is the first workout I’ve had in a long time where I felt good afterward. I was tired and hot but knew I did the best I could!
