I'm a Racing Fool!

Standard

Only 2 more days until the Rise & Shine 5K! This is our “graduation” if you will from the Spring Woodlands Fit Club. We’ve spent 12 weeks meeting every thursday evening and Saturday morning to go workout. It’s been great meeting all of the new people. I haven’t progressed to running much, but I have increased my walking speed and endurance. This 5K will be a street run, so it should be a bit easier than the sand and dust at the Muddy Trails race a few weeks ago. I just have to remind myself to take it easy and enjoy it…don’t try to push too hard.

I also signed up for the Pearland Pear Run 5K on May 8th. So, that means I’ve been averaging a 5K about every couple of weeks lately! The Pear Run will probably be my last race until it starts to cool down again at the end of September or beginning of October. The Pear Run will be my 6th race I’ve competed in. That’s exciting to think about. I’ve come a long way, baby. Of course, I have a long way to go too!

Weekend Warrior

Standard

This weekend was pretty good. I didn’t do a whole lot. Saturday I got up and went to fit club. I got a little over 2 1/2 miles in and enjoyed the weather. Then when I got home, my husband had already left for his mother’s. I had decided I would go with him since I hadn’t been over there in a while, but he told me to stay home or go do whatever I wanted. So, I stayed home and relaxed. I took a nap and enjoyed not doing anything! When Mike got home we went out to eat at Outback. I ordered the cheeseburger but only ate half of it. I gave the other half to Mike and left many of the fries on the plate. I also had a margarita, which was yuuuummmmy! Usually I’d have 2 or 3, but I nursed this one through the entire meal.

Sunday Mike and I didn’t do much of anything again. Mike worked all day or various things/projects. I watched a movie and read for a while. The dogs were able to enjoy the lovely weather outside, which they loved!

Here’s my weekend food collage:

Thursday Fit Club

Standard

I only got in 2 miles today. I was running pretty good but didn’t overdo it. My ankles were bothering me a little bit, but that’s to be expected when you don’t workout all week! I was about 1/4 mile into my run/walk when a dog showed up. He kept stopping to mark his territory, then would catch up with me again. Several people gave me dirty looks because they thought it was my dog off a leash.

He stuck with me for 1 3/4 miles. I called his owner and had to stop for a little while until his owner showed up. When she got there he ran into the car without any argument. She didn’t even say thank you, but at least Sparky made it home safely.

It was fun having him along though. It made the run enjoyable. If my dogs weren’t so spastic I may try to run with them out there as well. I also came across a pair of dove.

Today was my first day to photograph my food intake as well. I’m going to post them as a collage as most of them won’t require a description. You will see a donut on here, but I only ate 1/2 of it. It looked so good, but didn’t taste that great!

*Calorie count was a bit high with 1935, so 200 over
goal.

Thursdays at the Park

Standard

We did our workout again at the Tamarac Park. It was a good workout. I was able to get my heart rate up and got some running in. It seems like most of our people have stopped coming to the Thursday workouts. I hope they’ll be at the 5K on Saturday. We had a pretty good group going into this. One of the ladies, Irma, slipped on her flip flops and in turn broke her leg. She always had such a great outlook. Hopefully she’ll be back at it after her leg heals up.

I came across these bowls in my new Shape magazine. They’re the Measure Up Bowls and have the measurements marked on the inside of the bowl! How cool is that?!

Have a healthy Easter everyone!

Thursday Make Up and Lazy Saturdays

Standard

I forgot to post my Thursday workout. This was my first fit class since I got back from vacation. It was good to be back with the group, although the group seemed quite small. My cousin wasn’t there and neither was her friend Clara. I wonder if Clara quit. Coach Liz walked with me so I wouldn’t be going alone since no one else in my group was there. My group? Yeah, I’m not in the A group. This means that I’m a walker doing a smidgen of running. Translation = I’m slow! It doesn’t matter, I got in over 2 1/2 miles and got some good running in. My legs were slow the next day, that’s usually a good sign.

My husband started getting sick Thursday night and ended up staying on Friday. Then all night Friday he tossed and turned…and tossed and turned….and tossed…and I didn’t get much sleep at all. My alarm went of at 6 because I was supposed to be at fit club at 7. Well, I turned off the alarm, turned over and quickly fell back asleep. I had to run some errands today, including picking up a patch for our waterbed mattress. I’m hoping that patch works. After my errands, I went back to the park where we did our workout on Thursday. I thought Coach Liz said the entire loop was 3.25 miles. However, I took the route we were supposed to do on Thursday and it only came out to 2.14 miles. On Thursday we went down, then turned around. We didn’t do the loop. I got back to the car and saw how little I’d gone, but I didn’t go back to do my last mile. I was in a hurry to get to the grocery store and get home.

Now, it’s time to fill out my census form and send it in.

Only 6 days until Muddy Trails!

Saturday's come and gone

Standard

Oopss…Forgot to post my Saturday blog. Sorry about that. It was quite cool saturday morning. The themometer was reading 37 degrees when we left. Mike dropped me off at Luke’s and left go to run some errands. Clara didn’t show up but Kelly was there. It was good to see her. We started off down the greenbelt trails and over the bridge. I ran the first two times with the entire group, but then had to walk a bit more than the rest. However, I didn’t let that stop me from running here and there. I was happy with how well I did. Yes, it is behind everyone else but this isn’t a competition! I couldn’t figure out how to get my foot pod to read with my garmin…so I only tracked my time and heart rate. My max heart rate was around 173, so I know I was pushing it. According to my nike+ I went over 2.5 miles.

I got back to the “yoga” area about the same time as everyone else. In my rush to get out of the house on time I forgot to grab my mat. Thankfully we didn’t do a lot of stretches that required us being on the ground. A couple of the other ladies forgot their mats too so they just moved to the side and didn’t do any of the stretching but were sniggering at me because I was shaking like a leaf for the plank pose. Somewhat ticked me off…I kept thinking “well, get your butt down here and let’s see how you do”. But, I managed to keep my temper under control and didn’t say a word to anyone.

Mike picked me up and we headed back to the house. It was a gorgeous day and I was looking forward to spending some quality time with my Dad. I put the groceries away, jumped in the shower, and was getting ready to post my exercise when Dad pulled up the driveway. He came in and said “hi” to Mike, then we were off for the Woodlands’ Waterway. (I’ll be a posting a detailed description of the waterway, complete with pictures, on my other blog. I’ll put the link up here when I’m done if you’re interested!). We popped into Huddle & Hudson again and I guess since it was Saturday they had all sorts of samples out. Dad loves him some free samples! So we walked around, tried some of their goodies, and then left. He was wanting to see what all had been added since they had moved. I explained that there were a few stores that had closed down and just a few more than had opened.

We stopped for lunch at Goose’s Acre where I ate a big juicy, cheesy burger. I didn’t eat most of my fries…which probably didn’t save a lot of calories in the long run! After we finished dinner, we walked down the waterway to Market Square and looked around there a bit. We stopped at Johnny Rockets for a drink (ok…I had a strawberry shake). Then we walked the waterway back down to where we parked. I finally got my Garmin to read my footpod. We walked a total of 2.7 miles round trip. I think it may have been a little too much for Dad. He was limping a little bit. He had worked out that morning as well, so I know he was probably stiff.

I couldn’t have asked for better weather. We spent some quality time together and caught up on things. I don’t get to see my parents as often as I would like, so it’s always nice to see them. My Uncle Mark and cousin Cody came by our house to visit with Dad for a bit before he left. He flies back to NC on Wednesday. Thankfully, I’ll be following him up there on Saturday! I will be spending a week with my parents and will be able to see my nephews, brother and sis-in-law. I can’t wait! Yes, I still plan on getting my exercise in and will do my best to eat properly as well. My mother always has a lot of junk food in the house for the boys when they come. It’ll be a challenge.

We are going to the Farmer’s Market and I can’t wait! I plan on trying to get a bunch of goodies to make dinner that night. Nothing like locally grown produce for a yummy meal! I’m not sure how often I’ll be able to post to my blogs, but I’ll try to keep on top of them. I will take my netbook with me.

It's the Eye of the Tiger…

Standard

Thursday’s fit club was OK. I really didn’t feel like going, but I made myself go. I knew Kelly would give me a hard time if I didn’t show up, so I got dressed and headed out to the Woodlands. When I got there, Kelly and Carla were no where to be seen. They BOTH stood me up!

We walked/ran the waterway again. This time I went all the way down to where the waterway meets up with the mall. I ran more than I had been at the club, but unfortunately my left leg started bothering me again so I stopped running and walked the rest of the way. Jerry (my coach) thought my shoes may be tied in a bad place for my foot, so it is putting too much pressure on those tendons which is causing the pain. I’m not so sure they’re shin splints as I feel it on the top of my foot to just above the ankle and on the left side of my leg around that ankle bone. So, he suggested I take my laces out of the top hole and try tying it further down. I’ll try that and see how it does.

I finished last on Thursday, but I’m ok with that. I went 2.55 miles and had a pace of 17:17 with a hurting foot. Once I get that pain to go away I think my pace will be much better. I’m going on vacation a week from Saturday, so I’ll have to make sure I get my running in while I’m in NC.

When I finally made it to the end, where the rest of the people were waiting for me, I think I tweaked a hip muscle. Right on the front of the hip. I must have made the turn odd because my leg wanted to give out…but thankfully it was a quick pain and not lasting. It’s a little sore today, like I gave it a good workout. I’m hoping that was all it was…I just fatigued it. Tomorrow is another Fit Club day so we’ll see how it does then. My legs are sore all together today. More than likely it’s because of the running. It’s a good sign! I’m getting stronger! Or so I tell myself…

I did get my Garmin FR60 yesterday. I didn’t have time to set it up and use it, so tomorrow will be my first day using it as well. I have some pictures I’ll post on here later today to show the size. I’m glad it isn’t too incredibly big.
